The road we follow on this tour starts in the valley of the river Elsa and gets close to Monteriggioni castle, before climbing up to the Chianti hills. On both sides woods, vineyards and olive groves. Long drives, bordered by limes or cypresses, lead to old castles and villas, today farms, as well as to the houses where the farmers had lived until the sixties. It is there that the Chianti wine is produced. Castellina in Chianti can not be missed. It is a little fortified village, dominated by the fourteenth century Rocca, still keeping some of the Medieval structures, including a singular vaulted street: Via delle Mura. On the main street little charming shops sell wine and the local specialties. Castellina is more than 1000 years old, as it is proved by the presence of the large Montecalvario Etruscan tomb, just outside the village, which completely build inside the hill. A wine tasting is included in this tour.
