YOUR WHOLE DAY IN FLORENCE
28 September 2018

The rise of the Medici family started with Cosimo the Elder in the first half of the XVth century, when Florence was a powerful republic. His grandson Lorenzo il Magnifico was a protagonist of the Florentine Renaissance. Another member of the family, Cosimo, became the first grand duke of Tuscany in the following century. The Medici government in Tuscany lasted for two centuries, until 1737, which is the date of their family’s natural extinction. Retracing the Medici's story means retracing Florence history, not only because they had governed the city for so long, but also because their contribution was mainly responsible for some of the most important and beautiful changes in the city’s appearence. Let us just cite the best known places that are connected to the Medici memory: Palazzo Medici Riccardi, San Lorenzo basilica, Cappelle Medicee; Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi,Corridoio Vasariano, Palazzo Pitti. Our walking tour will lead us there
