It is said that the hot springs in Bagno Vignoni were first used before the Roman age. People knew and still know the good effects of sulphuric water on health, that's why this place kept its importance during the Middle Ages and in Renaissance. Among the many famous hosts there were Saint Catherine of Siena and Lorenzo de' Medici. Today, a Spa offers its services and treatments in a modern building with large, elegant swimming pools. In the past people could try the curative properties directly on the main square of Bagno Vignoni. Please, don't believe it is a classic little square in a classic little Tuscan village: it is a big rectangular pool full of hot water. From the hot springs we will move to Pienza, the town of pope Pius II. There we will meet “The Square”, heart of the city and starting point for the mathematical perspective, according to Renaissance philosophy. Around it Bernardo Rossellino transformed the Medieval village into the Ideal city. Pienza is famous for food as well. As soon as you get through the city gate you can clearly smell the flavour of Pecorino di Pienza, the locally produced ewe's cheese, that the little shops of the main street sell, together with other tasty products.
